TV Transcription

Fingertips Typing Services can transcribe your rushes into a Word or Notepad document.  We can input the burnt in timecode from the video file or DVD at various points throughout the transcript in order that you can locate specific parts from the film.  Unusual spellings including names, places, medical terms etc, can be researched on the internet.

We can view your movie file and transcribe simultaneously in order that we can capture visual movements if required, for example [Jane taps papers on the table].  We can transcribe into Word or Notepad and set the layout to your requirements.

Here is an example taking from the BBC News:

SCENE: 1

SPEAKER: HUW EDWARDS
Tonight at ten, a warning that the long term future of the NHS could be in doubt.  A new report says that productivity must improve and more money must be spent to bring it up to European standards.  The report also singles out obesity as a major burden on the resources of the NHS.

SPEAKER: SIR DEREK WANLESS
It is a real worry because nobody is quite sure what it will mean for the cost of diseases like diabetes, and then eventually heart disease and other cancers.

SPEAKER: HUW EDWARDS
We will be asking whether the NHS is likely to get an even bigger share of public money.  Also tonight, all the McCann files are now with a judge.  They will get a decision within ten days.  Not guilty, but a life sentence of regrets says the judge, for the woman whose granddaughter was killed by a pit bull.  And Europe gives way, it’s an imperial victory for the pounds and the ounces.

Below is a picture of a film with burnt in time code.  This timecode would be input into the transcript at whichever intervals you require.

Sub Titling

We can also produce SRT files which can be used for sub titling. Below is an extract from a video file converted to SRT. Sub titles are used for many reasons, for example, the hard of hearing, foreign language and also for people who prefer to read than listen. We use our sub titling software to enter the sub titles and the times in which they are to appear.

Closed or Open Captioning

Closed captions can be turned on or off.  Open captions are on the screen all the time.  We can add captioning to the video which is helpful for persons who are hard of hearing.  Captioning is similar to SRT sub titles but includes extra information such as sound and emotion.  This is aimed at the hard of hearing so that they get more a feel for what they are watching.  Below is an example.

Video Transcription

Online Video Transcription

We can transcribe videos from any site on the internet including YouTube.  The video can be pre-recorded or live streaming.  We have software that can capture and record the video ready for us to transcribe your video to text. We can input time codes into the transcript if necessary either from our transcription software or the time code from the video itself.  We can provide you with a copy of the audio file if required.

Examples of online videos are podcasts, documentaries, conferences, speeches including political and religious, programmes and business meetings.

Please supply the link to the video and we can proceed.

Sub titling - SRT

We can produce SRT files for your videos.  SRT files are used for sub titling purposes.  We will transcribe the text in our special sub titling software which creates the SRT file. Start and stop times appear for each sentence will appear on the screen.

Timings are in hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds for exact sub title appearance.  This ensures that the text appears on the screen at the correct time.   Please contact us with your details of your project and we will provide you with a quote.  Sub titles are usually needed for translation and contain dialogue only.

Closed captioning

Closed captioning is similar to sub titling but is more for the purposes of the hard of hearing rather than translation purposes.  Closed captions contain sounds and emotion as well as the dialogue so that the viewer gets more of a feel for what they are watching.

Video Transcription from digital file with captions

We can transcribe from your digital video files.  Commonly used file extension formats are MOV, WMV and M4A.

We can transcribe and view your video at the same time which means we can input any time code from the actual video into the transcript, and also any visual notations that would be helpful to the video transcription, for example somebody closing a door or leaving a room.  Please let us know if you would like a further detailed transcript, for example long pauses, somebody clearing their throat or sneezing etc.

Unusual names and places can be researched on the internet.   We can add captioning to the video which is helpful for persons who are hard of hearing.

Transcribe YouTube Video

We can transcribe your YouTube Video.  YouTube videos are not usually downloadable so we will need to record it first and then produce the video to transcript.

Hard copy videos

We can transcribe from VHS videos.  The most effective way to to this is to transfer the video to a digital file using our specialist software.  This then becomes a voice file which we can transcribe the video to text.  VHS videos are becoming more uncommon these days but occasionally we do get videos from councils and the police.

Please note that if you have not requested that your videos be returned within 3 months then they will be recycled.
