Three Reasons Your Attorney Might Hire a Transcriptionist

Legal Transcription

law-and-order-533138-mIf you have recently employed legal assistance, in order to take to the courts with the best possible backing, then you are likely paying close attention to the actions of lawyers and their legal teams.  After all, you don’t want to be surprised by any legal fees as your case progresses.  One of the things that you might have noticed is that hiring of transcriptionists.  These individuals, sometimes seen in the background at meetings or court appearances, have special skills that make them highly desirable to legal professionals.

PACE tapes If you were at the jail for some reason, prior to your hiring of the attorney, then you may remember the use of a recording device.  The police collect evidence, called Police and Criminal Evidence (PACE), which will often involve statements given by witnesses, victims, and accused parties.  These tapes will generally include very valuable information, and your attorney will likely request a copy, and audio transcription services will be requested.  The PACE tapes will be transcribed by a professional, who can wipe out background noise and capture, word-for-word, the statements made.  The resulting text file much easier to refer to and make sense of as the proceedings move forward.

Witness Statements Whether it was a car accident, a violent crime, or something entirely out of the ordinary that brought you to the lawyers office, there is a good chance that you will be asked to name witnesses to the event.  The lawyer or the associated legal team will interview these witnesses and record the statements made.  Again, for convenience, the lawyers like to have these interviews translated into text documents, which can be easily filed, highlighted, and shared as needed.  Thus, your lawyer may hire interview transcription services to have that job completed.

Meeting MinutesThroughout the legal process, there is a good chance that you will be asked to sit in on many meetings.  Your lawyer is likely to sit in on even more of them.  During all of these meetings, a lot of important information will be discussed and recorded and that means even more material to be transcribed.  In some instances, video recordings will be captured.  Video transcription makes it possible to quickly and efficiently point to something stated during those meetings.
